Growing a successful coaching practice is not about chasing every opportunity—it’s about making intentional business decisions grounded in self-awareness, professional integrity, and sustainable growth strategies.

This interactive panel brings together four accomplished coaches with diverse pathways into entrepreneurship—corporate leadership, legal practice, ministry, executive coaching, and education—moderated by Don Knagge, PCC. Together, they offer a candid, experience-driven conversation about what it actually takes to build a sustainable, values-aligned coaching business without compromising coaching integrity.

Participants will explore how seasoned coaches clarified their niche, transitioned from corporate or parallel careers, built trusted relationships, and designed business models that honor both client outcomes and personal purpose. The discussion emphasizes reflective decision-making, ethical growth, and the intentional use of coaching competencies beyond client sessions—into business strategy, partnerships, and long-term practice design.

This session is ideal for coaches at any stage of business growth—launching, scaling, or recalibrating—who want grounded insight, not hype, on how to grow with intention.

    Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

    • Clarify how personal values, lived experience, and coaching presence influence sustainable business decisions
    • Identify multiple pathways for growing a coaching practice while maintaining ethical standards and client-centered focus
    • Apply reflective practices used by experienced coaches to evaluate opportunities, partnerships, and offerings
    • Recognize how core coaching competencies extend beyond sessions into branding, positioning, and relationship-building

    ICF Core Competency Alignment

This program aligns with the following ICF Core Competencies:

    1. Cultivates Trust and Safety

Panelists share how credibility, consistency, and ethical decision-making shape long-term client relationships and referrals—demonstrating how trust is built not just in sessions, but across the entire coaching ecosystem.

    2. Maintains a Coaching Mindset

The discussion highlights curiosity, self-reflection, and continuous learning as essential tools for navigating career transitions, business growth, and evolving client needs—modeling a coaching mindset applied to entrepreneurship.

    Who Should Attend

    • Coaches building or growing a professional coaching practice
    • Coaches transitioning from corporate, ministry, education, or consulting roles
    • Experienced coaches reassessing alignment, sustainability, or scale

The Words We Choose: A Coach’s Practical Guide to Empowering Clients and Cutting Out Language Missteps

Every word we speak as coaches has the power to either open or close possibilities, to invite or inhibit awareness. The Words We Choose is a deep dive into how subtle language habits can unintentionally shape a coaching session. This session explores the most common verbal missteps coaches make, from seemingly harmless words to phrases that quietly shift power away from the client.

Together, we’ll examine why these habits develop, their impact on the coaching relationship, and how to replace them with language that truly empowers our clients. Through real-world examples and reflection, participants will build awareness of how tone, phrasing, and word choice influence trust, autonomy, and insight.

Rather than focusing on what not to say, this session highlights how to communicate in ways that respect the client’s autonomy and elicit deeper insight.

This is an invitation to have a greater impact by speaking with intention, listening with your whole self, and creating space for your clients to empower themselves through coaching.

It is no secret that people are experiencing high levels of stress in their lives and the workplace, which negatively impacts well-being and productivity. Effective mental health and stress management interventions exist, but can be inaccessible due to shortages in qualified mental health providers and the high cost of care. Additionally, some people still have a stigma around going to therapy. Research has shown that accredited professionals trained in cognitive behavioral coaching interventions can help clients decrease “perceived stress” and increase well-being. Cognitive behavioral therapy techniques are solution-focused and backed by comprehensive research and scientific study. They support people in fulfilling their vision and goals by understanding the impact of their thoughts on their feelings and behavior.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Learn a brief history of CBT and how it is adapted for coaching with CBC.
    • Learn what to listen for and when it is appropriate to use CBC tools.
    • Learn several applied CBC tools to use right away with your clients.

What if the deepest breakthroughs happen when the coach and client access intuitive knowing? Join Kristy Halvorsen, author of Perfect Unfolding, coach and nomadic world traveler, as we explore releasing expectations and embodying radical presence.

Through her unique journey from mechanical engineer to firefighter/paramedic to off-grid coach, Kristy discovered that the most profound transformational coaching moments come from complete openness to the unknown. She'll share the moment that changed everything she knew and revolutionized the way she coaches.

    We will explore:

    • How nurturing openness and curiosity cultivates complete trust.
    • Encouraging clients to tune into their inner knowing while letting go of conditioned beliefs.
    • Fostering embracing "off-the-wall" intuitive moments in coaching
    • Releasing judgment and expectations of ourselves and providing the reflective space for clients to do the same.
    • Opening doorways to transformation we never imagined possible.

The foundation of cultivating transformational trust and radical acceptance comes from an embodied understanding that everyone is always doing their best, given the emotional, physical and mental space they are in.

Come ready to question everything you believe as we explore a unique path to lasting change.

Kristy Halvorsen is the author of Perfect Unfolding and a transformational coach who has literally and figuratively gone off the beaten path. After 14 years as a firefighter/paramedic, in 2017 she sold her home in southwest Florida to migrate with the seasons in an Airstream trailer, which turned into what she calls a "modern-day walkabout." Living off-grid in nature for eight years has taught her more than any textbook could about trust, presence, and the gift of awareness and instinct.

Kristy's coaching practice spans the globe and all walks of life. A common thread is helping people realize who they truly are and live their dreams without sacrificing happiness along the way. Her word to describe this simple, fun, and beautiful way to live is “coddiwomple”—that is, to live in wonder, embrace the unknown, and trust Life while waking up to the complete freedom available to us all.

Participants will explore a reflective coaching process designed to support clients in moving from localized problem-solving to purpose-driven transformation. Through the framework "Why Change - What to Change - How to Cause the Change", coaches will practice facilitating deeper awareness that connects the client's goals with their larger sense of purpose and professional identity. Many clients initially seek to resolve surface issues - such as time management or productivity - without recognising the underlying patterns or values that truly drive their behaviour. This session invites coaches to guide clients beyond symptom-level goals, fostering insight, ownership, and meaningful decision-making. Using real case reflections and structured coaching questions, participants will experience how to evoke awareness and facilitate lasting growth in alignment with ICF Core Competencies. The workshop blends reflective inquiry, peer practice, and integration discussions to strengthen coaches ' presence, listening, and ability to hold transformative space for purposeful change.

Marta Villagra is a professional coach, author, and developer of the "Think clearly and act with focus" approach, which integrates reflective inquiry, systems thinking, and behavioural awareness to promote purposeful action. Her work bridges coaching and neuroscience, offering practical ways to transform complex challenges into intentional choices. As a facilitator and speaker, she is known for her depth, calm presence, and ability to evoke awareness that leads to meaningful action. Marta's mission is to help leaders cultivate the mental clarity necessary to act with focus, alignment, and integrity.

Join us for an engaging event that will deepen your understanding of Codevelopment Action Learning (CAL) and its application in coaching, especially for cross-funtional groups in organizations. CAL is a coaching process that has been developed for the past three decades in the French-speaking world: Canada (Quebec), France and Belgium, and is only now becoming adopted by English-speaking coaches, beginning with the publication of the first-ever book in English in 2024, Codevelopment Action Learning (CAL) for Business: Co-create, Accelerate, Grow. This event will be presented by Ron Cheshire, one of the authors of this book, who will be joining us from his home in Montreal, Canada.

This highly adopted and heavily researched technique is summarized in a series of steps. In this event, we will practice Step 0, and be introduced to Steps 1-3 through a practical Showcase. There will be a live demonstration with a volunteer client and volunteer coaches from our ICF Colorado community. Participants will also explore how to integrate CAL into their coaching practices in dedicated breakout discussions.

You’ll gain insights into developing essential skills, such as establishing clear agreements, fostering a reflective mindset, and transforming insights into actionable outcomes, all aligned with ICF competencies.

Don’t miss this chance to enhance your coaching toolkit and elevate your coaching journey!

    Learning Objectives:

Learn CAL Principles and How It Works: Get an overview of the Codevelopment Action Learning (CAL) approach, including its five key principles and how it operates to foster collaboration and innovation in coaching.

Apply CAL in Coaching: Identify where CAL fits into your coaching practice and get practical tips to start CAL groups that solve client challenges.

Expand Coaching Services with CAL: Discover how to use CAL in group coaching programs to co-create solutions, speed up client growth, and offer new services.

Many professionals struggle with the Impostor Syndrome (IS), doubting their success despite clear evidence of competence. First studied in the 1970s, and coined the Impostor Phenomenon, it is now commonly called Impostor Syndrome. The difference in terminology will be addressed.

For coaches, recognizing IS’s impact on clients’ confidence, leadership, and career progression is essential. This session, led by seasoned executive coach Susan Hahn, provides research-backed tools for clients to identify and overcome IS. Attendees will experience an IS assessment, gain strategies to foster resilience and self-assurance, and learn to guide clients toward lasting confidence. Personal insights and coaching techniques will empower coaches to lead clients with authenticity and impact. As part of the presentation, Susan will share how the Impostor Syndrome and Emotional Intelligence showed up during her recovery following a serious accident.

As a business owner, executive coach, workplace mediator, and trainer, Susan works with diverse organizations throughout the United States, Europe and Canada. In addition to serving as CEO of Swan Consulting Group, she is adjunct faculty at Johns Hopkins University. Certifications in mediation were awarded from The Maryland Institute for Continuing Professional Education of Lawyers (MICPEL) and The Baltimore School for Mediation.
